On the afternoon of Friday 18th September we shall meet for refreshments at the courtyard cafe of Hylands House, Writtle, Chelmsford. There are parks and gardens for those who wish to stretch legs after a long journey. The House itself was built in 1730 for Sir John Comyns and was once home for a period to the SAS during WW2. There is a small charge if you wish to visit the house but entrance to the park and gardens are free.
On the Friday evening, join us for our celebration meal at the Duke of Wellington in Hatfield Peverel, Chelmsford. Menu choices will be sent out to you if you indicate on the enclosed form that you would like to attend.
The Saturday AGM venue is the Terling Village Hall, Terling, near Hatfield Peverel, Chelmsford. Terling is home to another great house “Terling Place”. The property once belonged to Lord Rayleigh, the Nobel prize winner and discoverer of Argon gas. Rayleigh was also responsible for the theory of scattering, published in1871, correctly identifying why the sky is blue!
After the AGM lunch, we hope to have a talk given by a local history speaker – this is still being finalised. Leaving time enough for our customary AGM photo there may also be an opportunity to visit the local 13th Century church – a short walk from the hall. The day will close but not before our afternoon tea and cake.
I hope we have tempted you to join us. Please find enclosed the AGM attendance form. See you there.
