  SAMUEL RELF, 1776 – Journalist  

Samuel Relf, Journalist, born Virginia 22 March 1776. He was brought to Philadelphia as a child by his mother and early in his career became connected with the 'National Gazette' of which he was for many years the editor and its owner until in 1819 he became financially involved through friends.

His writings were highly esteemed and he was author of a novel entitled 'Infidelity, or the victims of Sentiment' (Philadelphia 1797)

NOTE: Samuel Relf was the son of John Relf and Ann King – we think John Relf was born about 1739 in Kent, England and travelled to the USA at some point prior to 1762. Samuel and John Relf are connected with IRS Members #102, #188, #190 (also see article on this family in Vol. 15 Editions 1 & 2 January and April 2006.)
